Trauma Dentistry

Urgent care for knocked-out, fractured, or displaced teeth caused by accidents or injuries.

Emergency Care for Dental Injuries

A sports collision, a fall, a car accident, or even biting down on something unexpectedly hard can result in a dental injury that requires immediate attention. At New Image Advanced Dental in Trinidad, CO, we provide urgent trauma dentistry to treat knocked-out teeth, fractures, dislocations, and soft tissue injuries as quickly as possible. Time is often the most critical factor in saving a damaged or displaced tooth.

Dr. Amy Wilson and our team are experienced in managing dental trauma for patients of all ages. We reserve time in our schedule for emergencies and do our best to see you the same day you call.

Types of Dental Trauma We Treat

Knocked-Out Teeth (Avulsion)

A completely knocked-out permanent tooth can often be saved if replanted within 30 to 60 minutes. Bring the tooth with you (stored in milk or saliva) and we will work quickly to replant and stabilize it.

Fractured or Cracked Teeth

Fractures range from minor chips that can be repaired with composite bonding to severe breaks that expose the nerve and require root canal therapy or a crown. Dr. Wilson evaluates each fracture with digital imaging to determine the best course of action.

Displaced or Loosened Teeth

Teeth that have been pushed out of position or loosened by impact may be stabilized with a splint while they heal. Early treatment gives the tooth the best chance of reattaching to the bone and ligaments.

Soft Tissue Injuries

Cuts, tears, and lacerations to the lips, tongue, cheeks, and gums are common alongside tooth injuries. Dr. Wilson can clean, suture, and manage these wounds to promote proper healing and minimize scarring.

If you or a family member has suffered a dental injury, do not wait. Call 719-846-7387 immediately and we will do everything we can to see you the same day. We serve patients from Trinidad, Walsenburg, Raton, and across Southern Colorado.

Frequently Asked Questions About Trauma Dentistry

Pick the tooth up by the crown (not the root), gently rinse it without scrubbing, and try to place it back in the socket. If that is not possible, keep it moist in milk or saliva and call our office immediately at 719-846-7387. Acting within 30 minutes gives you the best chance of saving the tooth.

It depends on the type and extent of the crack. Minor cracks can often be repaired with bonding or a crown. Deeper cracks that extend below the gumline or into the root may require root canal therapy or, in severe cases, extraction. Dr. Wilson will assess the damage and recommend the best option.

For injuries limited to the teeth and mouth, a dental office is usually the best choice because we have the specialized tools and expertise to treat dental trauma. If you also have head, neck, or jaw injuries, or if bleeding cannot be controlled, go to the emergency room first and then follow up with our office.

Yes. We see patients of all ages for dental emergencies. Injuries to baby teeth and developing permanent teeth require careful evaluation to ensure proper healing and to protect the underlying adult teeth.
